Teaching Sacred Languages

A First Nation language revitalization resource and workshop supporting language teachers, Knowledge Keepers and community educators.

Overview

Teaching Sacred Languages supports First Nation language revitalization through Indigenous knowledge systems, Elder guidance, and practical language teaching methods. This initiative includes both a curriculum resource and a two-day workshop designed to help language teachers, Knowledge Holders, and community educators strengthen language learning in classrooms, communities, and land-based settings.

Curriculum Resource

The Teaching Sacred Language Curriculum was developed from a First Nation perspective with guidance from Elders, master teachers, and language champions. The curriculum includes seasonal planning, language revitalization stages, vocabulary and sentence development, assessment tools, daily routine rubrics, comprehension checklists, and adaptable lesson plan templates.
