Traditional Systems Interrupted

SICC offers Cultural Competencies, which refers to the ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, particularly in the context of human resources, non-profit organizations, and government agencies whose employees work with persons from different cultural backgrounds. In this regard, SICC has created a program that addresses cultural competencies.
Traditional Systems Interrupted is an engaging workshop designed to guide participants through the history of Canadian Indigenous people before, during and after contact. Designed by Indigenous educators, the workshop is delivered through a variety of methods such as discussions, sharing circles, group work as well as a kinesthetic activity, all to promote a meaningful understanding of the impacts and interruptions on traditional systems by colonization. The rationale herein is to assist organizations, businesses and institutions in the implementation of the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
