SICC FNLKC Short Story Writing Contest

Annually, to encourage First Nation children to write in their First Nations’ languages, the SICC launched an annual book writing contest in 2011. For 2017 and beyond, SICC renamed this contest the SICC Short Story Writing Contest. This contest promotes First Nations' language development, revitalization and retention and is open for students from grades K to 12.
Entries may be either a written short story or a digital short story and must be written in a First Nations language with an English translation and have a First Nations cultural theme. Entries will be reviewed and judged by the Short Story Writing Contest Committee and will select the winning short story based on creativity and originality. The short story may contain illustrations but is not necessary as illustrations will be provided for the winning story. The winning short story will then be turned into a book and SICC will ensure that the books are written in the correct SRO.
The 2017 winners will be announced at the 2017 SICC First Nations' Language Keepers Conference in November 2017 and the first place winner will be invited to attend the Conference where they will launch their book at the Conference reception and participate in other Conference activities.
