SICC Short Story Writing Contest

Annually, to encourage First Nation children to write in their First Nations’ languages, the SICC launched an annual short story writing contest in 2011. This contest promotes First Nations' language development, revitalization and retention and is open for students from grades K to 12.
Entries may be either a written or digital short story and must be written in a First Nations language with an English translation and have a First Nations cultural theme. Entries will be reviewed and judged by the Short Story Writing Contest Committee and will select the winning short story based on creativity and originality. The short story may contain illustrations but is not necessary as illustrations will be provided for the winning story. The winning short story will then be turned into a book and SICC will ensure that the books are written in the correct SRO.
The 2018 winners will be announced at the 2018 SICC First Nations' Language Keepers Gathering in November 2018 and the first place winner will be invited to attend the gathering where they will launch their book.
