The SICC reviewed the Repatriation Policy for the Ethnology Reserve Collection of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM), which is under the Saskatchewan Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport (TPCS).

 

Three areas of concern were identified in a letter to TPCS dated October 16, 2009. These three areas of concern were addressed in a response from TPCS dated December 28, 2009. TPCS agreed to add an abrogation/derogation clause and change the definition for “Culturally Sensitive” in the Repatriation Policy. As well, TPCS agreed to utilize the minister’s prerogative to repatriate items in the RSM’s collection of archaeological objects.
