Albert, Marveena

Bio : A Sweetgrass First Nation member, Marveena, has been designing and sewing clothes for approximately ten years. A talent that started out of "meeting her family's needs". Now, Marveena focuses on designing First Nations and Western wear.

The technique of designing with First Nation's needs in mind fell into place mainly for cultural gatherings. Beadwork is applied to some of these items which make it appear very colorful. The western style was developed from the fact that Marveena's daughter is involved in the rodeo circuit and she wanted specialized fits and designs.

Marveena would like to "thank her late mother, Ruth Bull, who gave her inspiration and the art of designing and sewing clothes". Ruth was a traditional dancer in the powwow circuit.
