SICC Elders Advisory Council

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) Convention Act Section 29 provides for the establishment of an Elders Advisory Council (EAC). On October 22, 2008, at a duly convened meeting, the SICC Board of Governors and FSIN representatives agreed to transfer responsibility for the EAC to the SICC and has been confirmed by the FSIN Executive. Section 30 of the FSIN Convention Act provides that the EAC responsibilities are detailed in a protocol. The SICC has drafted a protocol for the EAC. That protocol was reviewed by the SICC Board of Governors and the SICC EAC.

The SICC EAC is comprised of one representative from each of the eight First Nations language groups in Saskatchewan: Plains Cree, Swampy Cree, Woodland Cree, Dene, Nakawē (Saulteaux), Dakota, Lakota and Nakota. In addition, the EAC has ceremonial male and female Elders. The EAC meets seasonally to provide advice and guidance to the FSIN and the SICC.

The SICC Elders Advisory Council consists of:

  • Isabel Impey, Swampy Cree
  • Philip Morin, Woodland Cree
  • James Sylvestre, Dene
  • Danny Musqua, Nakawē (Saulteaux)
  • Velma Goodfeather, Dakota
