Native Policy Withdrawn

SASKATCHEWAN INDIAN      NOVEMBER 1976      v06 n11 p05
The provincial government has agreed to withdraw and destroy a proposed Native Policy following a meeting between the provincial Cabinet and the executive of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians on November 1.

The Federation's executive requested and received support for the concept that Indian policy is to be developed by the Indian people themselves.

Also at the meeting, Dick Fedorick, the executive director of HRDA, was appointed as the provincial representative on the working committee of the Task Force.

The Federation received the conditional support of the province to extend the DREE agreement to all reserves in the province, however the support was on the condition that a long term Federal-Provincial Western Northlands Agreement be signed first.

The province is prepared to move on the area of land entitlement provided the Federal Government is prepared to move as well.
