Saskatchewan Indian Wins Award

The "Saskatchewan Indian" has won its first award for journalism. The newspaper placed second in Political Reporting with the Unity Awards in Media held annually at Lincoln University in Missouri.

The Awards have been held annually for 24 years by the University's Department of Journalism.

There were four categories: National, Missouri. Minority and Broadcast. Each category was divided into four sub categories: Investigation, Political, Educational and Economic Reporting.

Some of the other papers receiving awards were: The New York Times; The Boston Globe; The Saint Louis Post-Dispatch and the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin.

The New York Voice took three awards for minority publication, beating our the "Saskatchewan Indian" by taking first in Political Reporting.

The "Saskatchewan Indian" was the only Indian publication and Canadian publication to win an award.

The San Bernadino Sun Telegram took second in investigation reporting for a series of reports on conditions on California Indian Reserves.

The award was re-presented at the recent all chiefs meeting.
