1. If muskrats build their houses toward the edge of the lake. MILD WINTER

Logic: a muskrat needs open water to get to his house. Thus, if he builds near the edge of the lake, there will not be a long, hard freeze.

2. If muskrats build their homes in the middle of the lake. LONG WINTER

Logic: a muskrat will build in deep water because it does not freeze, then can get out of his house if there is going to be a long hard freeze.

3. If snakes stay around late in fall. LONG FALL

Logic: Snakes hibernate in the winter, thus, if they stay late, the fall will be long.

4. If rabbits keep their grey colors unusually long. LONG FALL

Logic: Since they turn white in winter, we can use them as an indication when winter is coming.

Logic: Cold weather is probably already beginning to set in and thus making the child cold. The weather will probably get colder.
