History

An original signer of Treaty 6 on August 23, 1876, Pee-yahn-kah-nihk-oo-sit was a very influential leader and spokesman for the Cree people. This leader chose to settle in the rolling hills approximately 33 kilometres south of, what is known today as, North Battleford.

This band settled on their reserve in 1878, in 1879 there was a recorded population of 416 members. Today the Red Pheasant Band consists of 1,698 members with approximately 540 presently residing on the reserve.
