History

Chief Kees kee hew mus-coo muskwa (Little Black Bear), the first leader of this band, signed the original treaty #4 in 1874 with a membership of 26. It wasnít until ten years later did they decide to settle in the File Hills area where their reserve was surveyed in 1880. The File Hills is located in the lower eastern part of Saskatchewan just north of Balcarres. In 1884 there was a population of 142 followers.

This Band is comprised of Cree/Assiniboines originating from the Cypress Hills location in the 1800ís.
