History

Ahtahkakoop First Nation is located 72 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert and is 17,347 hectares in size. The name of this reserve originated from the first chief, who was also named Ahtahkakoop (Starblanket). Chief Ahtahkakoop signed Treaty Six in 1887 with a population of 185 members. The present registered population of Ahtahkakoop is 2,418, with 1,276 members residing on-reserve. The language spoken is Cree.
