2012 SICC Pow Wow Initiation Project

In 2011, the SICC was granted funding to hold a special project called the SICC Pow Wow Initiation Project. As a result of the positive success of the program, we will hold this project annually. This project is open to the PUBLIC!

Please note that this is not a Pow Wow dance class! This 10 class, 20 hour project is intended to provide participants knowledge - an overview of Pow Wows in Saskatchewan. Participants will learn about the history of song and dance, the origins of Pow Wow, and how it has evolved over the years to contemporary times. Participants will also be provided information on the seven styles of Pow Wow dance, the various components of Pow Wow outfits and regalia with personal stories by those who dance today. In addition to the vast knowledge base of history, participants will learn Pow Wow protocol and obtain the necessary information to have the option be initiated into the Pow Wow circle and become dancers themselves or pass this knowledge to young ones so that they can be initiated. Pow Wow initiation will occur at the 2012 "Spirit of Our Nations" Cultural Celebration & Pow Wow held October 26-28. This annual project in anticipation of the 2012 "Spirit of Our Nations" Cultural Celebration & Pow Wow is scheduled:
