2011 Aboriginal Storytelling Month

The SICC Library plays a leading role in the SICC Storytelling Month activities held each February. Nearly 700 elementary and secondary students, teachers, parents and others attended this year’s Storytelling Month activities. These events were held at the First Nations University of Canada Saskatoon Campus Gymnasium on February 3 and 17, 2011.

Storytelling Month is an annual celebration of First Nations literature, traditional storytelling, cultural teachings and other traditional activities. These events featured presentations on the Prairie Chicken dance, syllabics and interactive learning demonstrations, stories through art and First Nations artifacts, stories from the guitar and traditional drum and roles and teachings of First Nations women. The response was very successful and most workshops were fully booked.
