2010 SICC First Nations' Language Keepers Conference

From December 02-03, 2010, the annual conference was held at the Saskatoon Inn Hotel and Conference Centre and offered more than fifty workshops, plenary sessions and public events. Delegates from across Canada and the northern United States were in attendance. The conference was part of the Sharing of Knowledge operational objective of the Languages Department as detailed in the 2010-2011 work plans of SICC.

The theme for the 2010 SICC First Nations' Language Keepers Conference was “Empowering First Nations Youth”. More than 500 participants were in attendance. The SICC invited First Nations youth ages 14-20 to participate in the conference. Those in attendance were asked for their input on the SICC First Nations' Youth Culture and Language Strategy.

On December 02, 2010, as part of the conference, a traditional round dance was held in the evening of December 02 at the First Nations University of Canada Campus, 710 Duke Street in Saskatoon.

On November 2, 2010, during the Annual General Assembly of the First Nations Confederacy of Cultural Education Centres, a resolution was passed designating this conference as a national First Nations Language Conference.
