On February 02, 2010, the SICC Library, along with the other SICC departments hosted the provincial launch of the Saskatchewan Aboriginal Storytelling Month. Held at the Saskatoon campus of the First Nations University of Canada, over 300 elementary and secondary students, teachers, parents and others attended the Storytelling Month Launch. This is an annual celebration of First Nations literature, traditional storytelling, cultural teachings and other traditional activities.
On February 11, 23 and 25, 2010, three more Aboriginal Storytelling Month activities were conducted. Held at the former SICC facility on 33rd Street in Saskatoon, these events featured presentations on tipi teachings, author readings, traditional dance demonstrations, hand drumming, traditional storytelling and performances, moss bag teachings, hunting, trapping and jingle dress demonstrations. The response was very successful and most workshops were fully booked. There was extensive interest shown by the media in Aboriginal Storytelling Month.
